Linkenhoker

Haley Barnard and Jamie Linkenhoker of Martinsburg announce the birth of their daughter, Ava Dawn Linkenhoker, weighing 7 lbs. 13.6 ozs. on February 25, 2007 at City Hospital, Martinsburg. Paternal grandparents are Theresa and Bernie Sturgill of Berkeley Springs. Paternal great-grandparents are Sally Ridings of Berkeley Springs and Frank Linkenhoker of Roanoke, Va. Maternal grandparents are Chris and Rita Barnard of Hancock. Maternal great-grandparents are Robert and Darce Barnard and Dorothy Sites, all of Hancock.

County prepares for emergencies

Like many communities across the country, Morgan County strives to help residents overcome barriers to preparing for the next public health emergency, whether natural or man-made. To explore ways to protect individuals from public health threats, community leaders are planning several activities during National Public Health Week, April 2-8.

"We all want residents in Morgan County to be protected from health dangers that could arise in the event of an emergency, such as a disease outbreak or natural disaster," said Karen Dawson, health department administrator. "Today it is urgent that we adequately prepare for threats to our health."

Waugh-Jackson wedding

Brandy C. Jackson and Donald W. Waugh were united in marriage October 21, 2006 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town. Pastor Richard Kroll performed the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Sue and the late Timothy Taylor of Charles Town. She is the granddaughter of Alice and the late Harry Jackson, Sr.

Massive pet food recall issued in North America

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a massive pet food recall in North America on March 17 due to some cases of kidney failure. The pet products were sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Menu Foods, Inc., a private-label pet food manufacturer in Ontario, Canada, is recalling all of its "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food that was produced at its Emporia, Kansas facility between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007. The recall includes specific canned and small foil pouch wet pet foods.

War Memorial recognizes staff

The Extended Care Facility staff at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital has been chosen for the hospital's semi-annual Teamwork Award.

Members of the Extended Care Facility (ECF) staff were nominated for their time and efforts in decorating the hospital conference room for the employee Christmas dinner. "The Pines Toy Store Elves" Team turned the hospital conference room into an old-fashioned toy store complete with nostalgic books, games, dolls, teddy bears, cars and trucks, candy counter display model train display, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus. ECF staff members selected the theme "The Pines Toy Store" in recognition of when the hospital was "The Pines Crippled Children's Hospital" in the 1930s, and used their own personal toys and decorations to create the toy store atmosphere.

50th anniversary

Bill and Dottie Mosier of Hancock were honored by their sons and daughter-in-law, Lynn, Stuart and Stacy Mosier, with a 50th wedding anniversary celebration on December 2, 2006, in the ballroom of the Hancock American Legion. The event was attended by a host of family members and friends from the tri-state area.

The milestone celebration featured a slide presentation that journeyed from memories of the couple's grandparents through highlights of their 50 years together. Those years wre also reflected in display of original wedding attire, family pictures and a 1956 calendar plate.

Concert

A concert will be held Sunday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at The Orchard Ridge First Church of God with music provided by Buck Braithwaite.

The church is located six miles east of Hancock, take Interstate 70 to exit 615, bear right, approximately two miles. Free-will offering will be taken.

Fultz

Saprena Louise Nesselrodt and Jonas Daniel Fultz of Hedgesville announce the birth of their daughter, Autumn Brooke Fultz, weighing 8 lbs. 11.10 ozs. on February 23, 2007 at City Hospital, Martinsburg. Paternal grandparents are Junior Fultz of Sharpsburg Md. and Ruth Miller of Berkeley Springs. Maternal grandparents are Lois Ann Hiett of Hedgesville and David Wayne Nellelrodt. Maternal great-grandparents are Rodney and Lena Heitt of Falling Waters and Bennie and Judy Nesselrodt of Brandywine.

American Legion Auxiliary

Several members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 60 Berkeley Springs, attended the mid-winter conference February 2-3, at the Lakeview Resort, Morgantown. Debbie Fox, unit president, Rachel Gray, Vickie Luttrell and Gale Chilcoat attended. The national guest was Irene Weber, American Legion Auxiliary central division national vice president from West Virginia.

During the auxiliary meeting, two other speakers, Margaret Cogswell, president of the West Council of Hospice spoke on the Hospice program and how it relates to veterans and Peggy Myers-Smith from the Children's Miracle Network. This network, founded in 1983, and is a group of 170 non-profit children's hospitals that provided premium care and research to help millions of children who have diseases or injuries. West Virginia University Children's Hospital is the only West Virginia hospital that is a member of the network.
