School policy would let employees donate paid leave to co-workers



Driven by a requirement of the West Virginia Legislature, the Morgan County school board has drafted a personnel policy that would let school workers donate their personal leave to co-workers who are sick or need to care for family.

Portions of the old B & O rail line behind the Berkeley Springs train depot have recently been uncovered and removed as part of an environmental cleanup project by CSX Transportation, Inc. and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

In the summer of 1952, Wanda Bailey went swimming at Cacapon State Park lake. At some point, the young woman from Beckley felt her high school class ring float off her finger in the water. Well, that's that, she thought, as her Woodrow Wilson High School ring sank through the water and settled onto the sandy bottom.

Over the years, Bailey thought of that gold ring with its red stone and gold "B" on the face. But she didn't fret about it, or get a replacement ring. She was busy building a life – marrying, moving to Washington, D.C. for a career with the government, raising three children, enjoying her grandchildren.

Staph infection was MRSA case

A student case of staph infection at Widmyer Elementary in September has been confirmed as the more serious strain known as Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

County school officials looked into the case earlier this month and were given the diagnosis by the child's doctor. An earlier report in The Morgan Messenger quoted school health officials saying the infection was not MRSA.
