Ambulance fee will show up on summer bills



The Morgan County Commission approved the final version of their Special Emergency Ambulance Service Fee Ordinance at their Friday, June 29 meeting.

Redistricting is dropped from commission agenda

The move to redistrict the county magisterial districts has been dropped from the Morgan County Commission agenda.

Commissioner Tommy Swaim said that the issue was too complicated and he wasn't going to bring it up again. Swaim said that he still represented his original district, District 3, for the remainder of his term.

Committees formed to study water issues & solutions



The Morgan County Rural Water Committee asked for citizen committees to study water issues and solutions at last week's Source Water Protection Forum.

Residents will still pay for ambulance transports from the Morgan County Rescue Service even if they pay the $75 ambulance fee that goes into effect July 1. The Rescue Service doesn't provide free ambulance service. Everyone gets a bill for an ambulance call.

County adopts a $75 annual ambulance fee

The Morgan County Commission enacted a Special Emergency Ambulance Service Fee ordinance at their Friday, June 15 meeting. The ordinance will impose a $75 annual ambulance fee for each household in Morgan County and will include both municipalities. The ambulance fee will become effective July 1.

The ambulance service fee will help fund mostly the Morgan County Rescue Service operations, but will also aid Paw Paw Fire and Rescue. The annual ambulance fee will be a separate bill that will be added to this year's property tax bills, which will go out in early July.

Morgan Sanitation seeks 30% hike in garbage rates

Morgan Sanitation, Inc. is seeking a 30% increase in the garbage collection fees for Morgan County residents. The West Virginia Public Service Commission is currently considering the rate hike request.

The increase will cover increases in the company's operating costs, including salaries, insurance, equipment repairs and postage, said owner J.C. Fisher. The fee hike is not due to the rising costs of fuel, he said.

Commissioners get check for graveling lot

The Morgan County Commission received a donation of $1,600 from the Chamber of Commerce for graveling the new parking lot at the county courthouse site. The total bill for graveling the lot was $1608.15.

Chamber of Commerce President Chuck Wheeler and Chamber of Commerce Director Beth Curtin both expressed their appreciation to the commissioners creating the parking lot. Parking is a major problem in town and the lot has alleviated it somewhat, they said. Curtin said they understand that the parking lot is temporary.
