Rock Gap test well results disappointing

An April 10 test well drilling and well pumping in the Rock Gap area was disappointing, said Morgan County Rural Water Committee Chairman Jack Soronen. Their results showed that the site didn't hold any promise for quantity or quality of water, he told the Morgan County Com-mission at their April 18 meeting.

Soronen said that the test drilling task force recommended that the county not pursue purchasing the Rock Gap property and that they let their option to buy lapse. The commission took no action at the time.

House fire kills woman



An early morning house fire in the Pleasant View area in eastern Morgan County killed an unidentified woman resident yesterday.

Commission agrees to explore hospital sale



The Morgan County Commissioners decided on Friday, April 18 to explore the idea of selling Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, which is owned by the county.

Mozier receives award for being champion of women in business

Since her move to Berkeley Springs in 1977, Jeanne Mozier has been a dynamo promoting the town, the arts and area business. One of her focuses has been encouraging local women entrepreneurs and artists and creating programs that benefit women.

Mozier was recently named the 2008 West Virginia Small Business Administration Women in Business Champion. She also won the award for Region III, which includes Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Washington, D.C. Mozier was the only West Virginia winner to also receive the regional award in her category.

County cracks down on out-of-state vehicles



Morgan County is cracking down on residents that aren't registering their out-of-state vehicles in West Virginia.

New courthouse drawing due in three weeks



Architect Tom Potts of Silling Associates said that a new professional rendering of the future courthouse would be available in about three more weeks. Costs for the entire courthouse project could reach $13.6 million.

Plans progressing for a new hospital



Plans for a new Morgan County War Memorial Hospital are progressing, according to Hospital Administrator John Borg. The future hospital will be located on Fairview Drive near the Fairview Subdivision about 1.4 miles from the present facility. Morgan County War Memorial Hospital is a county-owned facility.

Commission cuts tax rate, tries to hold line



The Morgan County Commissioners rolled back their proposed county levy rates by 5.6% at a special meeting on Tuesday, March 25.

Courthouse funding falls into place



The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development division has approved a $7 million loan to help rebuild the Morgan County Courthouse. Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito made the announcement on Monday.

Easter fire destroys trailer



An early morning Easter Sunday fire destroyed a double-wide trailer on Cacapon Road near the Route 9 and Route 29 junction between Largent and Paw Paw. Area fire companies returned later the same day when the fire rekindled around dinnertime.
