Planning board members to be interviewed



Three planning commission members have been asked to attend the July 25 county commission meeting to be interviewed before their reappointments to the board are considered.

County moving ahead with plan to fund new courthouse with bonds



The Morgan County Commission approved the first reading of an ordinance authorizing lease revenue bonds to partially finance the new courthouse. The action was taken at their Friday, July 11 meeting.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department handles many duties besides police calls, including tax collection, animal control and community service projects.

911 Center equipment purchase is approved



The Morgan County Commissioners approved $612,172 toward the purchase of computer-aided (CAD) dispatch stations, radio consoles and telephone equipment for the county 911 Center.

Hearing set about possible hospital sale

A public hearing regarding the possible sale of Morgan County War Memorial Hospital will be held on Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at the Berkeley Springs High School auditorium.

The Morgan County Commission announced the public meeting at a special meeting they held last Friday. The public meeting will include a presentation on the benefits of selling the hospital.

Planners get subdivision regs back for review



The Morgan County Commission voted 2-1 to send the proposed changes to the subdivision regulations back to the Morgan County Planning Commission for further review.

Skate park has a two-year plan



A two-year plan for completion of the future Berkeley Springs Bike and Skate Park (BS2) was laid out before the Morgan County Commissioners at their June 6 meeting. The Morgan County Parks and Recreation Commission voted at their May 21 meeting to accept the two-year deadline for the project. The BS2 Bike and Skate Park will be located at Harmison Field.

Area foster care parents give from their hearts

Tammy and Frank Spiker began their journey as foster care parents in 1986, giving love and support to 31 children that have passed through their doors. They adopted eight of those foster children and are beginning the process to adopt two more.

Courthouse may be completed by early 2010



Construction for the Morgan County Courthouse is expected to begin by the end of August or beginning of September. It is hoped that construction will be completed by the first part of 2010 and that the courthouse can be occupied within 18 months, Commissioner Glen Stotler said at their June 19 meeting.

Bids have been requested for the construction of the Morgan County Courthouse.
